UC-Davis Pepper Spraying in Context

Monday, November 21st, 2011

After last Saturday’s appalling pepper spraying incident during a UC-Davis Occupy protest, the UC-Davis police chief, Annette Spicuzza, said, “There was no way out of that circle. They were cutting the officers off from their support. It’s a very volatile situation.” This implies threatening behavior from the surrounding students. Perhaps there was more going on that can’t be seen from the original video that went viral?

Andy Baio compiled and sync’d videos of the scene from four different angles, showing the context surrounding the original scene. You be the judge.

[spoiler: Nope — prior to the spraying, I don’t see anything but nonviolent civil disobedience from seated students and protesters cooperating with police on the periphery.]
